pbxnsip Brings Feature Rich Voice Mail to Windows Phone System World

pbxnsip is a very full featured IP phone system. The voicemail is no different. While many Windows phone systems have focused less on voicemail, letting businesses with lack luster vm features, pbxnsip has given quite a bit of attention to detail here. And considering professor Clifford Nass and others have duly noted that humans are "wired for speech" its surprising this area gets passed over. Here are a couple of often requested features:

-forward a voicemail to a colleague
-create a voice message for one or a group of phones
-have multiple greetings and easily select the one you want
-you can even control your phone system from the voicemail main menu (using star keys)
-get, delete and manage your voicemail from user web portal

FREE Simple Failover Solution for Windows & Your Windows Based PBX

I've written a windows VBScript that will make a simple failover solution for Windows and Windows based PBX's.

Basically you have 2 servers running pbxnsip with the configuration you want. When the live server goes down the backup server will take on the IP address of the live server.

On the failover server you schedule the attached vbscript to run every minute:
c:\heartbeat <live_server_ip> <live_server_mask> <live_server_gateway>

example:
c:\heartbeat 192.168.1.10 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.1

Everytime the script runs and the live server is up a windows event log will be written of success.
The instant the live server fails, the failover process will role into action:
#1-windows event log of failure will be written
#2-IP address change will be done and event log written.

Roadmap Features:
-copy data from live server to failover on ongoing basis
-automatically start the pbxnsip service

Current Requirements:
-pbxnsip running on a second server with the configuration in place
-a pbxnsip license key with MAC address of master and backup server

Warning! This is beta, sloppy code (hey, i did it in 1.5hr) and not tested very much yet so use at your own risk. So test on a test senario and give me feedback by commenting below. THANKS for your feedback.

I'm Once Again Astonished by pbxnsip's Ease of Administration

Just this afternoon I received a call from a client that wanted 2 phones to be switched. For the sake of simplicity we’ll say they wanted extension 101 to have a fancier model phone and extension 102 to have the cheaper phone. How complicated should this be?

I logged into the remote pbxnsip phone server using the web administration console. I just copied the MAC address from one pbxnsip extension to the other, clicked “save” and then click “check-sync” to reboot the phones. One minute later the phone identities were switched! (I didn’t have to log into any of the snom phones.)

Wow! That is ease of administration!

First, setup a hunt group (such as 399) which has all the extensions you want to distribute the message to in "Stage 1" (such as 301 302 303)

Now pickup your own phone, press the Voicemail retrieve button, dial 5 then record the message you want to distribute and press # when done.

Next press 2 to copy this message, dial the extension (399) and ## and your done!

(You could also have dialed the specific extensions you wanted to send the message to. Wow!)
